A Fish Eagle, immediately after the Otter sighting at Kabini.
The light was very bad and added to that i needed to get to at least 1/500 SS to get some freeze of the wings and prevent blurring at...
Thanks Mrudul. The sighting was hardly for a few minutes before the mist blanked them out completely.

Another shot of the Otters - posted earlier from Kabini . . . .
5D Mark III, 100-400 IS II ISM, f4.5, 1/125, EC +2, ISO 16000 on a boat, Bean bag supported.

Lovely eye contact and majestic pose. The low angle gives it a sense of power and the off centered composition adds to the overall elegance.

Nice composition. Maybe a slightly higher ISO would help with a higher shutter speed for even more details. The low aperture has helped diffusing the plants on the foreground. Loved the framing and...
Wow, brilliant composition and nice image. In a situation like this when the breeze is up and is ruffling the feathers, a high shutter speed helps with more details. While the details on this photo...
Wow, a beautiful take off pose. The whites are blown - must have been a harsh light, can be recovered in PP. Maybe a slightly lower aperture would help with a higher Shutter speed and more details.

Oh yes Mrudul, that place is comparatively quite pristine as it has very little support infrastructure for tourism
I have had some amazing experiences in the past in that region. Once, on a quick...
Wild life enthusiasts and tourists will be able to see elephants, tigers and other wild animals up close in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR), as the Forest Department is set to begin a vehicle...
From a boat at Kabini. Very far away even for the 500 mm with a 1.4 TC
Kabini, around 5:30 PM. Rainy day

The Albino black buck (a bit of a noisy Dated photo of 2012)
This guy had grown in size since Sabyasachi and I had tracked him for hours in the summer of 2009 (was also the first time i met...
Lovely composition. Agree with Mrudul on the rectangular frame. Slightly more space in front of the Tiger would enhance this already lovely composition. You can recover the blacks (read the details...
Lovely composition capturing the classic 'Family herding' pattern, with the little one always between the two mothers. The light seems harsh and facing the elephants, casting shadows on the body.

Thanks. Congrats on the new gear and look forward to your posts.
Thanks Sabyasachi
Yes, we have been lucky with the otters during most of our kabini trips. The Circular Polarizing filter was a thought as i was trying all options to shoot through the mist, but...
Thanks Mrudul. No, this was on another trip - a winter misty morning. The Black Panther was just a couple of months ago. The sighting was for maybe 5 minutes, before they disappeared underwater.

On a cold foggy morning at Kabini. The mist was quite dense and visibility was extremely poor.
Had to bump up the ISO to insane heights (16000!!!), Wide open aperture (4.5), Exposure compensation...
Thanks Shankar. Strangely, they took turns getting to the front drinking and moved back into the woods

Thanks Saktipada, in fact, there was a little one in the group (not the one behind the two, an even smaller one - maybe a week old) which was in all sorts of quandary trying to drink off the stream....
Was fascinating to see the Elephant shoot water jet streams into the mouth. Probably their version of a Flush Floss - if you will :-)
Kabini - Zone B, around 5:30 PM. Cloudy day with low light

There is a typo. The ISO is 2000 & not 200 as posted in the earlier one

Another view of the Leopard - this time a vertical with a 100-400 II IS @ about 150 mm focal length.

Hi Mrudul, thanks. The sighting of the Black Panther lasted almost 25 minutes and this one came in midway through -maybe lasted 10 minutes.
This was the best angle we could make as we were at a...
This was the Leopard that decided to show up when we were filming the Black Panther (as reported earlier). There was a huge chatter of Langur alarm calls when we spotted the Black Panther. The calls...
