This is an image of a caterpillar (no idea which one, it is often called the "inchworm" and moves in a looping manner like a leech) descending from a higher branch using its silken thread. Caterpillars can secrete silk from their spinnerets, just like spiders do.
Used flash to darken the BG and the thread.
