Ranbir, All the pics you have uploaded lack a bit of sharpness . Really dont know the reason , bcos the 400 5.6 is a sharp lens.
Either you have a front/back focus issue or there is a uploading problem or , you are trying these shots handheld and getting some shake.
The reason I am pointing this out , is b'cos all the images are good images, nicely composed ad with good light on the subject.

I agree with you. I was a bit sad with the outcome. There are two (perhaps four) reasons. Most of the pictures were taken in a small dinghy, which was rocking most of the time. I was using a monopod, which did not give as much support as I had assumed.
Most of the pics have been taken from far with full telephoto end. The shake was thus magnified.
Lastly, I was shooting with the IS switched off.
A good learning curve nevertheless!
