Wild elephant calf rescued by people

A baby wild elephant which fell into a well was rescued by the collective efforts of locals,forest people and trained elephants.

People living on the outskirts of Palakkad district often encounter elephants from the forest.This time a herd of elephants came knocking at their village.The locals scared the herd to get back into the forest but a baby fell into a well.

A path was cut to the bottom of the well and with the help of trained elephants from Parambikkulam the baby was finally brought to the surface after 20 long hours.

They later let the wild baby into the Walayar forest.

It might have been quite a tough time for the calf to be in the well for 20 hours. It is good to hear that the locals helped to resue the baby elephant and released it in the wild. Thanks for sharing.

Fortunately in India elephants are treated as lord Vinayaga and they enjoy better respect from most of the people.. In many villages they are sacred and unlike in Africa, they are not killed for meat.

What elephant suffers in India is habitat loss (and subsequent conflict)and organized ivory poaching.

Good to note that the rescued animal is released back in to the wild than keeping it captive.
