Focusing was really difficult in this kind of scene.. camera was hunting like anything...

That was quite close. I know focussing with so much grass is difficult, it is best to use manual focussing at this time. Did you use manual focussing? You could have tried to zoom out a bit if possible to include the full whiskers and some more space at the right.

I used Autofocus.... If the view is not very clear ,I always fear that manual focusing can wrong some time thanks for your suggestions...makes sense.

At the bottom of the frame there is a strand of grass that is distracting. The image is sharp. I think it would have been better if you would have used the full 400mm and cropped the ears to just focus on the eyes. It is better to do manual focussing in such situations. Else the camera is going to hunt. Long back, when I was learning, I had used auto focussing on a tiger in a bamboo clump and the camera had picked up the bamboo during the vital moments. It is better to use manual focussing and remember to check the depth of field. If you ensure that you have sufficient depth of field by the chosen aperture, then you are covered.
