Frankly speaking I feel sad when our scientists try to justify their actions based on the dictats of some political masters. The approach of our scientific community is to create a solution to contain the risks. For every solution, there is a certain percent chance of failure.

Our Hon'ble Prime Minister has said that since 1400 crores have been spent in the Kundakulam plant, we have no way but to proceed. 1400 crores is a huge sum. However, we have lost more in the telecom scam (2G Scam) and other scams. When there is a chance to avoid disaster, do we still continue because we have already begun our journey? It is like continuing with a journey on a boat which is likely to develop a hole in a choppy sea, just because we have spent money in purchasing that faulty boat.

The question is if that amount has been spent, is some action being taken as to why this was cleared in the first place?

We need to seriously spend money in developing alternate technologies. The cost of solar power is coming down. In the second round of bidding for solar power projects, the cost of power has come down to nearly 8 rupees. This price was unthinkable a year back. I am sure, there will be more efforts in developing alternate technologies.
