The background is lovely. The head doesn't appear to be lit. Which TC did you use? The 300mmf2.8 L IS USM and the 400mm f2.8 L IS USM are the sharpest in Canon's line up. Ofcourse, your shutter speed was 1/400th. I am not sure the reason, but it appears a bit soft. Canon 50D has a facility to do Micro adjustment of the lenses. You can store data for 20 lenses. I have been told that after micro adjustment people get superb results.
