Beautiful scene. I liked the composition, the colours and details. Why so high ISO? You forgot to change the settings ? Thanks for sharing.

I had the 70-300mm lens which is pretty awful in low light and it was the crack of dawn...hence the high ISO...didn't want to take a chance

Nice scene.
Sharpness is dependent on how stable the camera is. So apart from high shutter speed, you can also get a sharp image if you place the camera on a stable support like bean bag, tripod or monopod. So you can experiment with that as well. If nothing is there, placing on another person's shoulder will also help. You may also check some of the sharpness tips in the tips section.
