    This is Black Necked Crane
    http://www.birding.in/birds/Gruiform...cked_crane.htm

Similar spp. Common Crane G. grus is smaller, has white stripe from behind eye extending down nape and black primaries, not secondaries. Red-crowned Crane G. japonensis has white primaries and more extensive white area behind eye. Voice Call is high-pitched and penetrating.

    Ramesh,
Good that you could see it. Lot of people have been trying to see this Black necked crane scientific name Grus nigricollis.

It seems you missed the focus a bit as the autofocus has picked the grass instead.

How far were they from you?

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

Can't expect much from a point-and-shoot. A very Good sighting though. Thanks for the info, Kiran.
