Wow, a majestic bird. Light seems harsh. In these cases the histogram would help. Wish the tail was fully inside the frame. Did you try a vertical too ?

I agree with Rajan that the tail should have been completely included. It seems you were focusing with the central AF point, so the subject is centred. The red eye of the male looks nice. Did you try a vertical composition?
When the subject is not moving fast, you don't need a higher shutter speed. So you could have used a lower ISO. Also, hornbills are large birds and they don't move as fast as small birds. Thanks for sharing.

No, I haven't tried the vertical composition. I'll try to shoot with lower ISO next time and experiment with other settings when shooting birds. :-)
