    Default Painted Stork

    Painted Stork (Mycteria leucocephala)
This particular bird is from the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary on the outskirts of Gurgaon. Not so long ago, the Forest department’s policy of Draining the Lake in the sanctuary to eliminate the African black fish critically threatened this resident birds within the Sanctuary. Deprived of the water of the lake, the Storks abandoned the colonies within the park. However a bountiful monsoon has ensured that the lake is full again and the Painted stork colony is thriving. This individual was photographed in one of the numerous trips it made to bring twigs to reinforce and expand its existing nest.

This is the nesting season so you found them bringing in twigs. Slightly more brightness would enhance the image. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely flight pose captured. The nesting material in the beak makes the image more interesting. Seems the light was harsh. Thanks for the information. Look forward to more.

Nice flight shot, agree that a bit of brightness would have been better. Good to know the water level in lake is full and the storks are migrating again.
