The b/w view gives a different effect to the image. Apart from the tree, the foreground is not enhancing the image.
I think if you could have photographed from a different place, it would have made it more interesting.

In your composition the maximum area is taken by the foreground. And the foreground doesn't is not interesting. So the image doesn't have the desired impact.
