    Default Monster Meal

    Photographed in Matheran.
Golden Backed Ants Camponotus sericeus working on a dead spider (not sure of the species- wold spider?). It is not clear to me whether the ants attacked and killed the spider, or are simply scavenging on its carcass.

This was intentionally shot with a shallow DoF as the shutter speed was already very low. I have a few higher DoF images shot using flash, but the lighting and colours in this one looked better to me.

Canon EOS 500D, Canon 100mm Macro USM
    Aperture-Priority AE
    Tv 1/6
    Av 8.0
    EC -2/3
    ISO 1600
    Flash Off
    Full-frame image
    Processed in LR3

    Thanks, comments and critiques awaited.

The details are nice. It is good that you are observing all these natural history moments. The low angle looks nice. You got any images with the ants in focus? Just wanted to see. Thanks for sharing. Keep sharing.

Thanks Mrudul. I have a few higher DoF images shot with flash, in which the ants are partially in focus. Will process and post them.

I like the composition and the perspective. The raised legs frame the image. I am not sure if the depth of field would be sufficient to get ants and the spider unless it is very bright. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,
