Nice image. The lighting is from the side so if you were more to the left or the bird were looking straight down the lens barrel, then its right eye ie. the one towards our left would have been in shade. So I am fine with eye contact with only one eye which is in light.
If you were to crop, then why click at 320mm? With these birds, when other photographers are not around, it is best to slowly move closer a feet or so at a time to make it comfortable. You can then move closer and get nice closeups without cropping.
