GoPro has launched its latest iteration of the immensely popular Hero series of action cameras by launching the GoPro Hero 12 Black.

GoPro promises a boost in the battery life and stability as the Hero 12 Black features similar hardware and they have done some refinements to achieve better functionality.

The sensor in the camera remains the same – 27 MP image sensor with 5.3K 60p video capability. It can shoot 4K video at 120p and 2.7K video at 240p.

It has launched the HyperSmooth 6.0 technology so that handheld and movement is more organic and stable than before.

The battery life is claimed to be double that of the previous versions so that you 5.3K video at 60fps can be recorded for 70 mins and 1080@30p can be recorded for 90 mins.

The Bluetooth capability is better and one can now connect wireless microphones via Bluetooth to record better audio.

High quality HDR video and images: Shooting HDR video is possible at 5.3K 60p.

360 degree Horizon Lock ensures that the shots have horizon steady.

Timecode:

For productions timecode sync is an important function which ensures that multiple GoPro cameras can be synced so that multi camera editing becomes much easier. This feature is compatible with FCP, Premier Pro and other editing softwares.

Colour: One can choose to record either in 8-bit colour or 10-bit colour for higher details and smooth gradations in the sky and ability to do more and better post processing.

GoPro’s HyperView digital lens is designed to take the footage with 8:7 aspect ratio and convert it to 16:9 shot for immersive Point of view video.

The 2.27″ touchscreen at the back is useful and one can toggle between the various settings to switch between widescreen shot, slow motion, night effects etc. One can select various settings and then set it as a preset.

Easy Timelapse: Using the interval tool one can easily capture timelapse, night lapse and other such shots. Set the interval duration and let the GoPro capture photos which can then be combined into one single timelapse. One can also set footage to be captured based on duration ie. from 15 seconds to upto 3 hours long.

This tool can also be used to capture star trails as the earth’s rotation ensures that when the shutter is kept open for a longer duration than the stars create steaks or trails in the photo.

One can also create light painting as the Light Painting mode converts light into brushstrokes.

The GoPro Hero 12 Black can be immerse in water upto 33 feet deep without water entering into it. According to GoPro the 1720mAh rechargeable battery gives improved performance in cold temperatures. So filming in snow will be better with this camera.

Price: GoPro has kept the price at $399 US Dollars.
