Nice environment image. Sambar is much less gregarious. We find them one or two with a yearling. I had found them in congregation standing in the open during downpour because they were unable to hear and the only way for survival was to spot the danger from a distance.

In this particular case, they have sensed some possible danger, the positioning of the ears by each one focussing different cones and covering almost 360 degree horizontal and about 90 degree vertical is a nice piece of documentation.

Let me quote what our Great Teacher has observed in the forests and recorded:

"A feature of the deer is that when a small party is disturbed but not alarmed, and is followed cautiously at a distance, it very often leads to another small group, and that the two join and proceed to yet another group or individual, gaining strength in this manner till a dozen or so are together, when they usually bolt." -M.Krishnan

Nice behavior captured. Liked the display of the habitat. A rectangular framing with more space on the right would be good. You could also try crop a bit from the bottom (the rocks with highlights). What were the EXIF details? Thanks for sharing.

Its a very nice image. Many times when we go trekking, we come across such streams and think if only there was some wildlife around!!! Here there is a lot of wildlife and the presence of a predator as well. Thanks for sharing.
