I prefer the first image since the tree gives a sort of border to the image, whereas the second has a tree falling out of the image. I love the motion of the trunk, the elephant's trunk, that is.

Agree with Apana, prefer the first post better. If the other tree was not present, then the second post would have looked good. Nice skin details visible.
