The Shahin (Falco peregrinus peregrinator) is the Indian resident sub-species of Peregrine, slightly smaller, darker on top and its breast and abdomen suffused with a rich orange-brown. Shahins were preferred to Peregrines by falconers in old days.
Peregrine is winter visitor throughout the subcontinent, it has just arrived in Sundarban, but smaller and equally bold Shahin is the Indian cousin.
    Great sighting. Superb image.
