Looks like a lark to me.Closest i can get to is Indian bush lark. Not sure though.Larks are a tough lot to ID without a feild guide.

Not very sure but it looks like a Syke's crested lark female to me.

Bill looks like that of Ashy crowned sparrow lark's (female). Since the image was from Marudhamalai (foot hills of W.Ghats) I suppose it is Ashy crowned sparrow lark.
Lovely pose and eye contact. The clean background adds to the image. Nice details. Wish the perch was natural. Thanks for sharing.

Could be jerdons as well. Kazmierczak feild guide says the shorter tail is indicative of jerdons. also the location seems to favour that. but jerdons generally show a lot more Rofous on the wing while perched.
