Hope this serves as a deterrent. Forest guards very rarely ever see poachers and only occasionally find evidence of their ghastly deeds. Hence, the State Government needs to ensure that tiger habitats are diligently patrolled especially in the night and that the tigers are constantly monitored.

We also need to realize that people are not born as poachers but are actually lured into the trade as an alternate means to livelihood. There have been cases in Ranthambhore wherein poachers from the Moghiya community have killed Tigers for Rs. 60,000 each ! Unfortunately , these villagers &/or nomadic tribes living on the fringes of the parks and the society, continue to remain vulnerable to traders catering predominantly to the traditional medicines market in China. The Government hasn’t been able to address this issue at all.

While the demand for wildlife products needs to be stopped at any cost, rehabilitation of villagers around protected areas in conjunction with a holistic approach to conservation is the need of the hour. On a parting note, how I wish the chinese finally manage to realize that our brains are the actual aphrodisiacs and not Tiger parts !
