    Default Sanderling

With winter come the migrant waders and the quieter beaches turn into a hub of activity in the mornings and evenings.I had a great time at one such beach called Pookkad on Calicut outskirts in Kerala. This year the calidrids have turned up in decent numbers here. They feed along the edge of the waveline probing into the sand as the wave recedes and pluck out prey from it.

Calidris alba. Pure white underparts and the absence of the hind toe are good Id features for a sanderling.

    Regards

Nice image Roopak. I like the way it picks off the prey. Its feather patterns look similar to a Ruff although whiter. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice behaviour image. Thanks for the info. Have you tried zooming in to see what the prey is?
