Common calotes or Common garden lizard (Calotes versicolor). The Indian chameleon is a very different lizard (here's one for comparison, posted by Dr. Katre- http://www.indiawilds.com/forums/sho...ight=chameleon ).
The common calotes is the unfortunate target of a myth that says it sucks the blood of anyone who approaches or looks at it (hence the archaic name 'bloodsucker'). In fact, it is very interesting to observe the contests between territorial males of this species, with their colour changes and head-bobbing aggression displays.
