Lovely crisp details captured in a mammal one is generally used to seeing at a distance. Thanks for sharing.
' Astonishingly long tongue ' in M. Krishnan's words. Nicely captured.

Thanks friends for comments.
Nice image. Well exposed. Loved the tongue flick. Dada has quoted one of the most pertinent observations of Shri M. Krishnan regarding the barking deer. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,

Thanks Sabyasachi for appreciation.
Beautiful portrait of a shy species. Nice details and composition. The long tongue nicely documented. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Mrudul for appreciation. The animal literally walked into the frame while I was looking for birds.
The picture evokes a sense of astonishment and pathos. The former purely due to the tongue, Saktida has rightly pointed out quotes from Shri Krishnan. Pathos from the eyes, animals look amazing more compassionate I feel. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Murugan. I think I was very lucky. The deer literally walked into the frame.
Apropos of my posting dated 12 - 08 -2018 , the photograph testifies to the fact that male Barking Deer in India shed the antlers during summer (April-June) months.
