One needs to compose the scene so that the difference between brights and dark areas is not much. That is the skill a photographer has to acquire. These days photographers just blame the lack of dynamic range of the camera, but one can always pay attention to the scene before clicking.

Looking at the lack of details on the head and the size of the leaves, I guess this is a large crop. If you post the uncropped version of this photo for comparison then we can give proper suggestions. Thanks for sharing.
