Why the -1 exposure compensation?
While clicking you have to keep in mind whether the scene has got dark and bright areas. If there is both shadow and sunlight in the frame, then the camera may not be able to handle it due to low dynamic range of some cameras. In such situations better to move around and shoot from a different point of view.

Thanks Sabyasachi Sir. I am taking photographs without training. There was two lights falling on wood so experimented on this subject.
