Thats a nice image. I am a big fan of snake images. Hell, im a big fan of snakes.
I like the play of light and shadows. You got the eye lighted, that's a plus. The mound forms a diagonal composition which further adds to the image.
I tweaked your image a wee bit. let me know if you find it better.
1. I cropped out the dry leaf at the bottom. It was distracting as it was bright in the shadows and drew the eye to it.
2. Reduced the highlights a bit
3. Sharpened slightly...
