    Default Elephant Charging!

Shot this at Bandipur last weekend, surprsingly this female elephant was all alone and seemed restless, probably had lost the herd...

Cow elephants sneak away when the labour pain aggravates. Ofcourse, the birth is given mostly when surrounded by herd members.

It is reported that cows in heat will stay behind the herd. They however will trail the herd.

A lone elephant is always not comfortable and tend to be restless with well grown tuskers being an exception.

A good photograph manisfesting the mood.

I agree with Laxminarayanan. This seems to be a pregnant female elephant. It seems you were close to the elephant. More space at the bottom would have been good.

    Cheers,

I like the image. Thanks for the info Nataraja. Including the body in full might have looked better.

Nice behaviour captured. The raised trunk and foot is interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the interesting information Laxminarayanan.
