Nice eye contact. It is good that you got it on a natural perch. Looks like it is a big crop, hence there are loss of details.
I too use a 100-400mm lens, I agree a higher focal length is required for bird photography, but you can try to go closer or use a hide to get the bird larger in the frame. Cropping more than 10-20% will result in loss of details and the image will loose tha charm. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with the previous comment. It is not easy to get a closeup even with a long lens. You need to be at the right spot, at the right time and be patient. Skills at crawling in the ground will also be helpful.
The eye contact is good. It seems light was bad. Thanks for sharing.
