Cute bird. The composition is nice. The bird seems a bit soft, maybe there was a slight movement. Wish the light was better for a higher shutter speed. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely bird. Nice composition, even if the bid is small in the frame. However, there is noise in the image- ISO 1600 is asking too much of the 40D. Also, f4 on the 100-400?

Thanks for the quick reply Rajan. But seeing that the bird is small in the frame, why did you choose to shoot at 100mm or so (that is where you get to use f4.5) when you had even 400mm at your disposal?

Hi Bhargava

Yes you are right, the 100-400 starts at f/4.5, gets to f/5 around 140mm and onwards to f/5.6 at around 250mm and beyond. There were two reasons for the shot at around 100mm. If you had noticed an earlier post, i talked about an issue with the push pull of the lens, which sometimes get stuck (even after adjusting the ring that works the tension). This was one of those times when the push pull was hard. I've sent the lens a couple of times to Canon and it works fine for a couple of months before starting all over again. This is not always, but have observed, happens often in cold weather. The second reason was delibrate, for i wanted some wide space at the left bottom - for a greeting card for a niece who loves love birds and Minivets.

The leaves are in focus. I think the bird moved a bit. Slight sharpening will be better.

I agree with Rajan. It is not important to just get a closeup shot. The composition is important. Try thinking from the perspective of the editor and you will realise that space is more important to place text.
