    Default Collared Scop Owl

The highlight of the second day at the Birding camp (IIT Chennai) was the spotting of this elusive bird. However, light was very low (6:15 AM) and I did not find place to mount a tripod.

    Canon 400 D, Canon 70-300, F5.6, 1/125, ISO 400, +0.7, Hand Held

    Please critique and advice

Exposure is fine. Wish you had some better light or a stable support. The habitat is nice. Normally we find the owl in a dead tree. Here the greenery adds to the image. The 100-400 would have been better in this situation.

Nice eye contact. The vertical composition looks good. Agree if the light had been good you could have used a narrower aperture to get more details. You can check the tips section to know more about hand holding techniques, so you won't need the tripod . Thanks for sharing.

Nice image Vaishnavi. Good eye contact.

this species is now called the Indian scops owl (otus bakkamoena). the himalayan species is called Collared scops owl (otus letia) and is not usually found in the south.
