This place in Anaimalais was once the haven for elephants. But, now it has become their death trap.

During the release of water from upstream reservoirs, there is a rapid violent current and many elephants have been washed away. Especially the calves. The man made canal is so narrow.

Recently there are breaches in the canal which acts as a blessing for elephants. If the breaches are repaired, elephants will find the place unsuitable. There are several representations from humans (much to the displeasure of animals) to repair the breaches..

Besides this canal, monoculture plantations of Eucalyptus now prevail over the once verdant forests depleting the forage base.

There are coconut groves in patches within the forest which aggrevates the conflicts between man and wild animals.

The photography looks appealing, but the place has a sad background to share...
