I would prefer more space rather than less details in the subject. It is tough to get an ideal eye contact from this angle. Since the head is farther from the lens, it is better to aim for more depth of field.

The dark underparts have lost details. I guess it was underexposed as the camera was pointed upwards at the sky. The thick black border and white border distracts and takes away attention from the bird. Thanks for sharing.
