A big thumbs up to the equipment you use

    Welcome to Indiawilds!

I like the composition. The clean BG adds to the image. Seeing the high shutter speed, you could have used a narrower aperture to get better details. What was the exposure compensation you dialed? Wish more light was falling on the eye.

    Hi,

    Welcome to IndiaWilds.

Nice first post. The perch and the eye contact is nice. As it was against the light, giving a +ve exposure would have been good. The clean background looks nice. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to more.
    Regards,

I agree with the previous comments. I merged your posts to bring the image up.

The light is from the right and the shadow side is towards us. In bird photography, it is better to have the sun behind you. Frontal lighting brings out better details. Ofcourse, side lighting has got its own uses in creating dramatic portraits, however, you lose details in the face.

In contrasty lighting, it is also important to get the focus right. At times the auto focus locks on to the area of the highest contrast and that may not be the head. So better to check the focus point as well.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi
