Its sad to hear this. She was an amazing tigress. The news say she dies under mysterious circumstances, you know about any inside news?
Regards,
Mrudul Godbole
Indeed we all miss her a lot, the official report says natural death and to a certain extent I do agree as Gowri had lost 3 of her canines and age too was catching up. But I am glad she raised her 3 cubs well and all have now moved into adulthood and are doing well.
Nice image Suraj!

"She is no more. Gowri is no more. Light has gone out of the lives of all naturalists to come to Bandipur."*
The cubs from her last litter may be about 2 years old (around March 2011 they were born). Did all of them left Gouri to live independent lives? And no one could stand by the mother when she might have faced some adversary. I do not know. The older the mother, the sub-adults may stay little longer with the mother.
How come it is official when NTCA has reported last death of tiger in Bandipur on 17 Feb 2013 ?
Suraj Bhai and Praveen Bhai, though sadness grips our mind, thank you.

Apropos of my posting on 10-03-2013 11.20 P.M, I may add the following:
18-Jan-2013 : Bandipur T.R. : Poaching Carcass found
17-Feb-2013 : Bandipur T.R (HD Kote Range): Poaching (Under Investigation)
*Source: NTCR site
It may be possible that we might have lost Gowri ( to me she was 'Gouri' meaning Ma Durga) long back on or before before 18-Jan-2013.

May be she was poached, as Shaktipadaji mentions. When tigers become comfortable to vehicles, it becomes easier for poachers to kill them. We don't know if a snare was used or she was killed by the gun.
If we can protect our wildlife - both predators and prey - then they will thrive, giving us many many moments of unalloyed joy.

Sad to know Gowri died the way she did. All of them deserve a better life (without human conflicts) and a good natural death. They have becomes wishes only now, and by the looks of it will probably remain a wish. Thanks for sharing Suraj.
It indeed is a great loss. She was a remarkable tigress.
Suraj,
It is wise on your part to wait for such a long time before breaking the news on this forum, till every possible confirmation has been made. The first news of her demise must have surfaced about 6-7 weeks ago.
