This place, despite being a Ramsar site hasn't got the attention and protection it deserves. The degradation of the place was faster and noticeable when the industries came up and appropriated vast areas which were mudflats and converted them into salt pans. As a consequence, the number of migratory birds had also come down. It is important that Point Calimere gets adequate protection and its ecosytem shouldn't be drastically changed due to the industries as well as anthropogenic factors.
